Giving Back Ahead of Thanksgiving

Ah, the fourth Thursday of November. Doesn’t it just make you warm inside? During a national holiday that carries such deep meaning for families and friends—and great food—we want to share our recent company-wide volunteer activity that took place on November 4th. Employees of MOSAIC, Mosaic Learning, and Mosaic Express participated in the 7th annual Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event, held at MOSAIC’s Fulfillment Center in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

The United Nations (UN) website specifies 767 million people currently live below the international poverty line of $1.90 a day. Many who are not counted in this number are at risk for slipping back into poverty. Zero Hunger is the second goal out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the UN set in 2015 to accomplish by 2030. MOSAIC took action to do what’s within our power to help this cause.

Ending Hunger Is Possible

Rise Against Hunger is a nonprofit based in North Carolina that has aligned with the Zero Hunger goal of the UN. Through their #2030isPossible campaign, they let the world know the center of their mission is the belief that we can end hunger in our lifetimes. They are well on their way to making it happen: the organization has packaged more than 58 million meals sent to over 40 countries since its inception in 1998.

Each year, MOSAIC continues the tradition of hosting the meal packaging event simply because it’s who we are. At our company, doing good is just as important as doing good work. On the 4th we gathered together, put on some dance music, and had a wonderful time putting together nutritious meals in assembly line style. By the end of the event, we’d packaged 18,000 meals that will be shipped to the location of Rise Against Hunger’s choosing.

“MOSAIC’s Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event was an empowering experience for me. As someone who recently began working with the company, it was a also a welcoming activity—a great opportunity to spend time with my new colleagues and their families. It’s heartening to be a part of a community that deeply cares about making a positive impact for those in need and I was glad to be a part of it.” —Sean Carnell, Senior Marketing Account Executive

Best Wishes for Thanksgiving 2017

After participating in this Rise Against Hunger event, we walked away energized to continue volunteering through future events and enthusiastic about having helped the Zero Hunger goal become a reality. MOSAIC will move forward into the rest of this year’s holiday season excited about future possibilities to make a difference in others’ lives.

No matter how you will be spending the holiday—whether it’s getting extra slices of pumpkin pie or getting a head start on your holiday shopping—we wish you lots of fun and happiness.  We also hope we’ve inspired you to find ways you or your employer can get involved with Rise Against Hunger.
