Publication Designer

The Publication Designer is a team player who works with the Creative Director, Art Directors, and Senior Designers to concept, layout, design and complete multiple magazines and publications for our clients. This position will be working mostly on long-form publications, magazines and other print projects such as brochures, press kits, and annual reports, utilizing a deep knowledge of InDesign.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the creation and design of multi-page projects for clients
  • Work with other designers and clients on cover conceptualization
  • Complete layouts of magazines, programs, brochures, etc., using existing grids and style sheets
  • Work with existing templates to resize, update copy, change pictures and adjust layouts
  • Balance tight deadlines with great design
  • Conceptualize, brainstorm and create new design concepts for long-established publications
  • Adhere to existing style manuals and publication guidelines
  • Manages project timelines and budgets while working in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Monitors trends in design and appropriately applies knowledge and experience to increase the clients’ effectiveness in the market
  • Responsible for maintaining a design library while remaining attuned to design trends and advances
  • Work on other design projects based on client’s needs

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3+ years in production, design, and/or creative departments
  • At least 2+ years in working on publications and/or long-form page layouts
  • Prefer a four-year degree, however, will look at equivalent work experience
  • Expertise in Adobe CS required, specifically InDesign
  • Experience in magazine or publication industry preferred
  • Understand and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in content and information design, including type, color, grid and imagery
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of composition, typography, and visual hierarchy
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work remotely with clients
  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Must be able to juggle multiple projects at once and adhere to tight deadlines
